Santa Eulalia (Santa Eulària des Riu in Catalan) is a municipality on the East coast of Ibiza and the town of the same name is the third largest resort on the island. The cosmopolitan, relaxed ambience makes Santa Eulalia ideal for year-round living, as do other towns in the municipality such as Jesús, San Carlos and Santa Gertrudis. Santa Eulalia Old town is built on a hill (Puig de Missa) where you can find a 16th century church, built in part, to defend against pirates. The town boasts some reputed art galleries, a new exclusive Marina, designer shopping, two beautiful beaches and some of the island’s leading restaurants, ensuring its reputation as Ibiza’s gastronomic and cultural centre. The nightlife is more low key than the likes of Ibiza Town or San Antonio but the new marina is popular for leisurely dining with busy evening music bars. The town also has a renowned hippie market, a hangover from the 70s when hippydom was at its heyday in the region. Nowadays, it’s also a celebrity hotspot, thanks to a relatively paparazzi-free environment where, it seems, the locals don’t indulge in gossip. Located at just over 20 kms from the airport, Santa Eulalia has long proved a popular destination for families, many of whom have holiday homes in the region. The palm-lined promenade which runs the length of the beach and nearby resorts of Es Cana to the north and Cala Llonga to the south are ideal for kids.
“You have (nearlly) everything you need in one place, all at walking distance, so you can park and do all your chores without having to move about or park” explains local photographer Gyspy Westwood “There are great butchers, fishmongers, markets, supermarkets, cafes, most kinds of shops… we now have a cinema, which every Tuesday and Wednesday is playing original version movies and the rest of the week dubbed in Spanish. They also show plays and other events there- Teatro España!! There are great amenities for kids, all sports activities, plenty of schools…it is a great all year round place because it is small, but it doesn’t feel like a ghost town out of season, with all the amenities shut!. There is always movement even in winter which makes a great community”
